Famous Boycotts

1980 Olympics
On March 21, 1980 President Carter announced that the United States will boycott the summer Olympics in protest of the Soviet Union’s invasion of Afhganistan.

Montgomery Bus Boycott
Precipitated by the arrest of Rosa Parks in protest of segregational laws, black citizens in Montgomery, Alabama in decided to boycott the city buses in 1955. This was a very significant event in the civil rights movement which spanned the 1950's and 1960's. It sparked interest nationwide and proved that non-violent protest methods could be an effective way to elicit change.

Sal's Famous
In the heart of the neighborhood is Sal's Famous Pizzeria, run by Sal and his two sons, with its 'Wall of Fame' covered with photographs of famous Italian-Americans, glaringly out of place and insultingly insensitive on this African-American street in Bedford-Stuyvesant. The drama begins when Mookie's friend begins telling people to boycott Sal's Famous because "“there ain't no brothers on the wall. Radio Raheem was there to fight the power in all his glory.
